GAIA BioMaterials founder Åke Rosen was invited to present the insights gained from having participated in – and won – the public innovation procurement process for Region Skåne regarding aprons made from biomaterials. More than 20 Public Procurement Officials and Politicians attended the event.
Mr. Rosén also presented the company’s revolutionary biodegradable biomaterial Biodolomer® and how it can help close the loop for the circular economy through the efforts undertaken within Biodolomer® for LIFE; a EU financed project within the LIFE program that is undertaken together with Båstads Kommun and NSR AB.

On March 30th, Gaia BioMaterials CTO Åke Rosén R&D and CEO Peter Stenström were invited to the furniture fair PROMATAP in Łódź, Poland, to present the future for bioplastics within the furniture industry from an environmental and sustainability perspective. The seminar was hosted by Ackurat, a leading European manufacturer of plastic components to the furniture industry.
Gaia’s view of the circular economy, where reduced waste of natural resources and recycling of products into renewable energy are cornerstones, as well as its work with developing a new biomaterial together with Båstad Municipality and NSR as part of EU’s LIFE programme, was very well received by the audience.

Students from Lunds University at NSR AB
Approximate 55 students from Lunds University, in two different groups, visited NSR AB on February 23rd 2017 and were guided around by Hans-Eric Nilsson, NSR and Martin Dyberg, Strategic Communicator, NSR/Vera Park. The purpose of the event was to show the students around the facilities of NSR and Vera Park and tell about all good things that happens and develops within Vera Park, such as Life Project Biodolomer® for Life and its partners ( Båstad Municipality and Gaia Biomaterials).

On Februari 13th Vera Park and NSR had the great pleasure of welcoming the highest leading municipal official of Helsingborg city, Palle Lundberg. In addition to a tour of the industry plant and explanation of Vera Park concept, he was also presented with “Biodolomer® for Life”, an EU sponsored project within the LIFE program, where GAIA together with Båstad Municipality and NSR will evaluate the potential of the fully compostable and biologically degradable biomaterial Biodolomer®.

On December 7, 2016, Båstad Municipality had the opportunity to host representative from the European Commission, LIFE. Ms. Katja Lähdesmäki, Monitoring Expert from Neemo EEIG – ELLE , and Ulf Kullenius, from Gaia Biomaterials AB and Kim Olsson and Johan Kristiansson, from NSR AB, and Sari Bengtsson and Aline de Camargo Olsson from Båstad Municipality situated at Skåne County.
The project is a collaboration between the Municipality of Båstad, GAIA Biomaterials and the municipally owned waste company NSR AB.
With the support of the EU LIFE financial instrument, Båstad Municipality is the lead part and GAIA Biomaterials holds the expertise in biomaterials. NSR is testing the material in biogas production by using the biomaterial in food waste collections from households and restaurants. Unlike traditional plastics do from fossil oil, the content does not need to be separated from the package. The purpose of the commitment of Båstad Municipality is to contribute to a good environment, less waste and of course to demonstrate clear leadership in the area of the circular economic perspective. Båstad Municipality goal is to become one of Sweden’s top 10 environmental municipalities.
